Khloé Kardashian Reveals How She Felt Welcoming a Baby Via Surrogate Amid Split From Tristan Thompson

In the third season premiere of Hulu’s The Kardashians, sisters Kim and Khloé Kardashian had a fascinating heart-to-heart about the particular experience of welcoming a child through surrogacy. Both women had been pregnant before choosing surrogacy and could compare the two experiences, though for Khloé, there was the added complication of being somewhat estranged from Tristan Thompson, father of her daughter and son, as they prepared to welcome their second child together.

“A surrogate process, Kim knows, is really hard for me,” Khloé tells her ex-brother-in-law Scott Disick, to which Kim adds, “She had a hard time accepting the whole process.”

“It’s a mindfuck, it’s really the hardest thing,” said Khloé, still sort of reeling and struggling to connect with her newborn son. Kim shed some light on the pregnancy experience for Scott’s benefit, explaining, “I do think that there is a difference. When the baby is in your belly, the baby actually feels your real heart. Think about it. It, like, touches your organs. There’s no one else on this planet that will feel you from the inside like that,” prompting Disick to chuckle and add, “I got so many good jokes,” which is fair.

In a to-camera conversation, Khloé laid out her mindset during the pregnancy and birth of her son, not addressing the Tristan of it all by name but hinting that she wasn’t exactly thinking clearly. “I definitely buried my head in the sand during that pregnancy. I didn’t digest what was happening and so I think, when I went to the hospital, that was the first time that really registered,” she said, adding that, of course, she doesn’t blame her infant. “It has nothing to do with the baby. It’s just, you’re like okay, we’re having a baby, and this is my son and I’m taking him home with me. I definitely was in a state of shock I think from my entire experience in general.”

Getting super honest about the moment her son became, essentially, hers, Khloé remembered, “I felt really guilty that this woman just had my baby, and I take the baby and I go to another room and separate. I felt it’s such a transactional experience.”

With surrogacy increasingly mainstream, Khloé Kardashian issues a warning to potential parents: “I wish someone was honest about surrogacy and the difference of it. But it doesn’t mean it’s bad or—It’s still great! It’s just very different.” Glad to get the real talk on this.
