Lily Aldridge’s bright coral lip – straight from her makeup artist!

We’re constantly updating our Last Night’s Look gallery with all the best red-carpet moments (gorgeous dresses! dazzling accessories! sky-high heels!). Now, let’s talk beauty. Each week, we’ll be highlighting one of the most gorgeous makeup and/or hair moments, along with details on how to recreate the look — straight from the makeup artist or hairstylist — in our feature, Look of the Week.

With the recent launch of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, supermodel Lily Aldridge has been jet-setting across the country to celebrate the annual mag’s three-cover special. And during the promo tour, we’ve been seeing a whole new side of the star — a bold, colorful side — with the help of celebrity makeup artist, Patrick Ta. Her latest look, highlighted with a poppy coral lip, is giving off major spring vibes, so we’ve tapped the makeup pro for all the scoop on the warm weather beauty moment, below.

“Her dress was so beautiful and white — I didn’t want to do anything too out there,” Ta tells PeopleStyle of his decision to give the supermodel a statement lip. “We were in Miami, and I thought the color went with the city.”

So Ta chose a gorgeous bright coral shade to really make the supermodel’s pout pop, as he does with most of his clients, including Olivia Munn, Gigi Hadid and Shay Mitchell, these days. (You could say he has a thing for statement lips!)

“I love an orange lip, and I want all my clients to wear it,” says Ta. “Lip colors make a look so much for fun — they bring a whole new vibe to the full look.”

For the fresh lipstick look, Ta began by lining Aldridge’s lips with M.A.C Cosmetics Pro Longwear Lip Liner in What a Blast, and then filled in the rest of the lip with Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Electric Coral.

Aldridge, who we rarely see rock a bold lip, was enchanted by the unexpected pop of color, says Ta. “She loved it — she hasn’t done a orange lip in a while, so it was a fun look.”

For a statement pout like Aldridge’s, Ta recommends keeping the rest of the face fresh with minimal makeup. “Remember when wearing a bold lip or color that you want to let that color shine,” he tells PeopleStyle. “So to make color work, keep the rest of the face clean, and color will be fresh and cool instead of tacky.”
