‘I love a creamy carbonara’: Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel talks cheat meals

Candice Swanepoel stunned on the Victoria’s Secret catwalk on Wednesday, looking jaw-dropping in an array of extravagant lingerie, however the supermodel told Yahoo7 she’s only human and loves to indulge from time to time.

You are well known for your work with Victoria’s Secret – what is the secret to remaining healthy?
I’m a breakfast person, so I like to have a big meal to handle a heavy day. This includes eggs, yoghurt, and a power smoothie (berries, almond milk, coconut oil, protein powder). A good diet with regular exercise is important to me as my body is my work.

Is it hard to always remain healthy – do you have cheat days?
It’s not really about cheat days anymore for me. More and more I worry about knowing exactly what is in our food these days, finding ingredients and produce that isn’t packed with unknown chemicals and hormones is most important now. The indulgence is having to spend more money on organic, rich produce that you know are packed with vitamins and minerals. On a less serious note I love a creamy carbonara pasta.

What’s your hair type? (Dry in parts? Difficult to manage? Absolute dream to manage?)
My hair is pretty easy to manage, but it is slightly dry from the amount of products and styling.

Tell us about one of your hair beauty tricks.
Wrap wet hair in a top knot to get some volume and curl.

Your best drugstore find?
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula products, I love their creams and moisturisers.

What’s your favourite body product?
Bio Oil – this is my favourite product from back home in South Africa and I love using it on my body.

You are the model face of Max Factor and also the symbol of an angel on earth. Did you ever imagine achieving this success before turning 30?
I never expected to have done as much as I have these past years, I’m so happy things worked out for me because it can always be very different. I think that’s what I always reminded myself of and that kept me working hard. I was relentless. I pause and think to myself sometimes how incredible life is, literally anything is possible. I remember day dreaming in the garden on my farm in South Africa about the future, I could have never dreamed this up.

How do you unwind?
I really enjoy how I feel after working out, so to relax I’ll take a yoga or a Pilates class. I used to think yoga wasn’t for me, but I think you need to get to a place in your life when you need to connect to your breathing and learn to control your mind. I tried it again and was more open to the benefits. I also like unwinding by taking my dogs for a walk while listening to music. I believe a lot in energy so whenever I can, I take a swim in the ocean to clear mine and feel refreshed.

How do you relax when you’re travelling?
I catch up on sleep, watch movies and read.

Tell us one of your favourite indulgences?
Collecting beautiful jewellery – Jacquie Aiche or Finn Jewellery are two of my favourites.
