Candice Swanepoel Says THIS Celeb Is Her Unexpected Fashion Inspiration

Supermodel Candice Swanepoel is back — and killing it in more ways than one. After taking some time off after having her first child — including skipping the latest Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show — the VS Angel made a major debut at the Met Gala, donning a Topshop gown that looked like it could have been straight out of the Black Swan. Even though there were no actual feathers in sight, Candice’s dramatic black winged liner coupled with her princess-esque dress was enough to conjure images from the hit thriller. (Except for you know, the fact that Candice wasn’t scary — just scary-stunning.)

Teen Vogue had the opportunity to catch up with the model as she got ready for the biggest night in fashion — and she gave us all the deets we were hoping for. “In the past years I’ve worn a similar shape of dress so I really wanted to do something different this year,” she said. “Collaborating with Topshop, we thought it would be amazing to play on the proportion of the dress so we went with a dramatic skirt,” she added.

She revealed that she fell in love with the dress for both its shape and its shade. “Blondes wearing all black is striking no matter what,” she said. (We couldn’t agree more.) Makeup- and hair-wise, Candice and her glam squad decided a on a tough, graphic eye and a high ponytail to show off the gorgeous neckline of the dress. She also divulged some red carpet fun facts, like her cant-live-without necessities (lipstick, powder, and her phone) and the fact that Rihanna is one of her style faves because of how fearless she is.

As for what’s up next for Candice, we’ll just have to wait and see. “This is my first month back to work after taking time off to have my son. Excited to be back and lots in the works,” she said. If this Met Gala appearance is any indication, it’s safe to say she’ll be killing it in the year to come.
