Barbie has a bad day! Margot Robbie looks forlorn onset as she continues filming alongside Ryan Gosling as Ken

Margot Robbie was seen filming scenes for the upcoming Barbie movie looking a little forlorn on Wednesday, as she continued work on the project that is now well underway in Los Angeles.

At one point during the day’s filming, the 31-year-old Australian actress was seen with her head in her hands shooting a scene in which Barbie clearly is having a bad day.

Accompanying Margot for a second day was Oscar-nominated star Ryan Gosling who is playing her counterpart Ken – decked out in a Western-style shirt complete with embroidered flowers, fringe edging and pearl snap fasteners.

Barbie’s sorrow could be down to the synopsis of the film, which is being touted as ‘a fish-out-of-water story about a doll who is ousted from toy society for not being perfect enough’, according to a report by Vulture.

Another synopsis on IMDB of the upcoming film reads: ‘A doll living in “Barbieland” is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world. A Live-action feature film based on the popular line of Barbie toys.’

Will Ferrell is said to be playing the CEO of the toy company that may or may not be Mattel.

Little Women and Ladybird filmmaker Greta Gerwig is directing the project, and wrote the script for the film with her longtime partner Noah Baumbach.

Other members of the cast include Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Emma Mackey, Kingsley Ben-Adir, America Ferrara, Rhea Perlman, Ariana Greenblatt, Ana Cruz Kayne, Alexandra Shipp, Ritu Arya, Sharon Rooney, Connor Swindells, Scott Evans and Jamie Demetriou.

Fans think Emma will be playing the role of Skipper, the younger sister of Barbie, thanks to her resemblance to Margot.

It has been rumoured that there will be different versions of Barbie and Ken, with one Barbie said to be portrayed by Issa Rae and the other might be Hari Nef.

Marvel’s Simu Liu and new Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa are also said be playing other Kens.

New York Times reporter Kyle Buchanan recently tweeted: ‘I am hearing incredible BARBIE goss at Cannes. For one, I’m hearing that Ryan Gosling is not the only Ken in the BARBIE film. Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa also play Ken.

‘And, by the same token, Margot Robbie is not the film’s only Barbie. Issa Rae and Hari Nef play different Barbies…’
