Candice Swanepoel Proves That Different Is Good

In the past few days, we’ve overheard a bunch of people talking about Prabal Gurung’s spring campaign pH๏τos, but it’s not because of the clothes (sorry, Prabal). Instead, everyone was trying to figure out who the new smoldering it-girl was, until they realized it was Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel looking very un-Victoria’s Secret-y.

The towering blonde bombshell looks nothing like her normal self in the spring ads, which show her with dark brown hair, pale skin, and wearing more than a bra. To those who are used to Swanepoel’s beachy hair, and fresh-from-St. Bart’s tan, it was a total and refreshing shift. And writers can’t stop blogging about it.

No one called a press conference when Swanepoel got a few extra highlights or changed her spray tan setting from medium to dark. But when she unveiled an entirely new look, even the International Business Times took note. Yesterday, an Allure editor wore a pink coat and everyone had a raving comment for her. But it wasn’t because of the coat (though it was cute).
It was the change. Wanna get comments? You don’t need a full, Swanepoel makeover. You just need one substantial change. Switch your part, lay off your kohl liner, bring bright blue polish to your manicurist. Trust us, people are going to notice.
