In a raw and revealing InStyle interview, Jennifer Aniston opens up about living and loving the single life.
The candid interview was conducted by her friend Molly McNearney, who happens to be Jimmy Kimmel’s wife. Molly broke the ice by asking Aniston some very personal questions, like, “When are you getting back together with Brad [Pitt]? Did Justin [Theroux] ever wear your jeans? And, when are the twins due?”
Jen took it all in stride, answering, “You’re the only person who could start an interview like that and actually send me into hysterics, not hives.”
Aniston said she usually laughs off tabloid headlines, but took a moment to set the record straight on a few things.
“The misconceptions are ‘Jen can’t keep a man,’ and ‘Jen refuses to have a baby because she’s selfish and committed to her career.’ Or that I’m sad and heartbroken,” she said. “First, with all due respect, I’m not heartbroken. And second, those are reckless ᴀssumptions. No one knows what’s going on behind closed doors. No one considers how sensitive that might be for my partner and me.”
“They don’t know what I’ve been through medically or emotionally,” the actress continued. “There is a pressure on women to be mothers, and if they are not, then they’re deemed damaged goods. Maybe my purpose on this planet isn’t to procreate. Maybe I have other things I’m supposed to do?”
Aniston shared a similar sentiment with “Extra’s” Renee Bargh in 2015 when asked about the obsession with asking women about starting families. She told us, “I think it’s ᴀssumed if you’re a woman and you have a uterus you need to procreate.”
A few years ago Mario Lopez asked if Jen was amused or annoyed by the headlines. She told him her reaction is usually “It’s a slow news day.”
Meanwhile, Jen also pointed out to Molly that women and men are treated differently in the media after a split.
“When a couple breaks up in Hollywood, it’s the woman who is scorned,” she said. “The woman is left sad and alone. She’s the failure. F that. When was the last time you read about a divorced, childless man referred to as a spinster?”
Of course, Aniston can’t escape an interview without a question about “Friends” coming back.
She confessed, “Before that show ended, people were asking if we were coming back. Courteney [Cox] and Lisa [Kudrow] and I talk about it. I fantasize about it. It really was the greatest job I ever had. I don’t know what it would look like today, but you never know. So many shows are being successfully rebooted. I know Matt LeBlanc doesn’t want to be asked that question anymore. But maybe we could talk him into it.”
Jen also had this fabulous idea, “Or we just give it some time and then Lisa, Courteney, and I could reboot ‘The Golden Girls’ and spend our last years together on wicker furniture.”
