Jennifer Aniston just wore a dress she stole from Monica Geller’s wardrobe on Friends and it totally works

Jennifer Aniston fans, gather round…

Listen, not everything in Friends has stood the test of time – some of the fragile masculinity and off-key jokes don’t sound great today – but one thing certainly has: the fashion. Well, two things really, because we still lust after the Rachel Green – aka Jennifer Aniston – bob, but it’s the clothes we’re keen to talk about right now.

Thanks to the resurgence of Y2K fashion – a trend recreating the late ‘90s fashion and early-to-mid 2000s fashion styles – we imagine that if we raided the wardrobes of Rach, Monica Geller or Phoebe Buffay, we’d find a whole host of pieces that we’d be keen to wear today – and to be honest, we can think of lots of things worn by Joey, Chandler or Ross that we’d be pretty enamoured with too.

Obviously, for us, this is all just a dream because we’ll never get anywhere even close to rifling through the on-set outfits of any of the Friends cast, and that’s just a reality we have to accept. But the same can’t be said for Jen An.

In a recent Instagram post with hairstylist Chris McMillan, Aniston can be seen in a very retro-looking dress, and it turns out, she nabbed the piece right off the show’s set, specifically from Courtney Cox’s wardrobe. Now that’s what we call forward thinking.

Die-hard fans of the show will likely recognise the black, floral v-neck dress with lace trim that Monica can be seen wearing in several episodes – both in the girls-turned-Bing-couple apartment and Central Perk – but if not, Jen made it pretty damn clear on her Instagram that she’d held onto the prop for herself.

After wearing it out, she shared pH๏τos to Instagram of Cox wearing the dress on set as Monica Geller, asking her followers, “Does the dress look familiar? Still got it!” She then shared McMillan’s post, proving that it still looks great all these years later.

But if you thought that the actor parading the dress in front of Courteney might spark the same sort of table-chasing argument that the pair entered into during a very fraught episode in season 7 which saw Rachel move out the apartment, you’d be wrong. Because Cox commented under Chris’ Insta post to show her support: “Cuties ❤️,” she wrote, to which many fans responded asking her whether she recognised the dress as her character’s own.

Other followers who spotted the vintage dress were also quick to add their own complimentary feedback to the comments section. “Wow wow wow, Rachel and Monica should have shared clothes more often,” wrote one, while another added: “She looks so cute and beautiful 😍😢❤️❤️❤️.”

However, the eagle-eyed among you might be less than surprised by dress-gate, because Aniston actually admitted to People last year that the dress is in her possession. “I went into her line of clothes and I pulled out a dress that Monica wore,” she said. “I still have it and wear [it] to this day and it fits.” Cox, meanwhile admitted in the same interview that she didn’t take anything from set. “I’m not a person that collects things. And then I regret it,” she said.

And we can imagine, given how incredible her co-star now looks in it, that the Monica actor regrets not nabbing this particular piece for herself even more.

Well, we’re sure that Jennifer Aniston would be up for sharing the dress with her fellow actor, given that it was originally Cox character’s to begin with. Right?! Now, where can we find our own version to wear this summer?
