Megan Fox has been celebrated by fans for many different reasons since her career began. However, Fox did address the over-Sєxualization she experienced early in her career. Megan Fox shared these details about being Sєxualized while speaking with former collaborator Diablo Cody.
The two previously contributed to the 2009 cult classic horror film Jennifer’s Body. The film stars Megan Fox as the тιтular Jennifer, a high school student who becomes demonically possessed and begins to kill and eat her male classmates.
Though the film didn’t make much of a splash at the box office, it has garnered quite the following in the years since. In 2019, for the film’s tenth anniversary, Fox and Cody reunited for a discussion about the project. As shared via LAD Bible, this discussion has recently resurfaced online.
The two talked about Jennifer’s Body and how the movie seemed to be marketed incorrectly. They quote this mismanaged marketing campaign the reason for its failure at the box office. In fact, the film was mostly marketed towards men, when it is more of a feminist film.
As explained by Megan Fox, this lined up with her career at the time, which included being over-Sєxualized by the media and the public. Here’s what she shared with Cody:
“I had, I think, a genuine psychological breakdown where I just wanted nothing to do, I didn’t want to be seen, I didn’t want to have to take a pH๏τo, I didn’t want to have to do a magazine, I didn’t want to have to walk the carpet, I didn’t want to have to be seen in public at all.”
She developed a fear of the public, especially if she didn’t look “perfect,” and shared the descriptions she expected the public to blast at her:
“I was too fat, I was too thin, I was stupid, I was offensive, I was a waste of space, I was a bad actress, whatever, all of the things you can think of, I anticipated experiencing.”
Cody, who once had a career as a stripper, agreed with Fox’s perspective:
“People will say well, she was a stripper, we don’t really care – does she really have a right to talk about being Sєxually objectified?”
The two continued their discussion about the film and the production behind-the-scenes. It’s certainly sad that Jennifer’s Body didn’t immediately succeed with moviegoers, nor did Megan Fox or Diablo Cody have the best of times during those years.
Nevertheless, Jennifer’s Body has proven itself to be a classic with many fans today, and Megan Fox and Diablo Cody are no doubt both still proud of what they’ve accomplished.
