“Poor Man’s Angelina Jolie”: Megan Fox Refused to Work in Angelina Jolie’s $703 Million Franchise to Save Her Reputation

Actor Megan Fox could well be termed as “controversy’s child”. The sultry star has always been in the limelight not just for her choice of films but also for her personal relationships and comments on different issues like body structure and beauty standards. After working as a child star early on in her career, Fox got her big breakthrough with Transformers opposite Shia LeBoeuf, which catapulted her into the big leagues. Following the first two installments, the actor was subsequently fired from the rest of the sequels owing to her comments on director Michael Bay, whom she compared to Hitler.

Megan Fox went on to star in mainstream films like the horror flick Jennifer’s Body, How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, and the television show New Girl. But the model-turned-actor has also let go of huge projects that landed in her kitty owing to various reasons.

Megan Fox refused Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider, which was a reboot of Angelina Jolie’s 2001 adventure film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, is one of the high-profile films that actor Megan Fox rejected. The role ultimately went to Alicia Vikander and was a moderate box office success, raking in around 277 million dollars worldwide. The film was also appreciated by critics. Despite Megan Fox not missing out on a mᴀssive hit, it was still a bold decision on the actor’s part to refuse a franchise that has been widely successful, first as a video game, and later as a film. But the New Girl star was clear that her reasons for not doing the film weren’t script related.

Megan Fox was desperate to avoid comparisons with Angelina Jolie
Megan Fox was firm in her decision to not be a part of Tomb Raider despite being the first choice for the role. The Transformers star stated that the real reason behind this decision involved the original actor of the film, Angelina Jolie. According to a close source of the actor,

“She’s the logical choice to play Lara and she loves the character, but the comparison with Angelina is too much.”

Fox openly confessed that she has been continuously compared to the Maleficent star on numerous occasions concerning her physical appearance. She went on to say that she considered herself completely different from Jolie in terms of her acting talent and choice of films and wanted to be viewed as a unique actor who has carved her niche. Tomb Raider, therefore, would not give her that space without comparison. She also added that these comparisons with Angelina Jolie were not fair and accurate.
